SEA Airport Traveler Update: December 23, 2022

Status updates

December 23, 7:45 pm

As the temperature continues to rise, tomorrow, Dec. We expect to return to normal operations on the 23rd. Always check with your airlines before heading to the airport and contact them directly if there are any delays, cancellations or rescheduling.

December 23, 3:40 PM

Another runway (16R) is now open…that’s 2(of3)! Airlines are working hard to get their planes out safely. We appreciate all the teams who helped in this difficult situation. As always, remember to check with your airlines before entering the airport!

December 23, 11:25 am

We keep the runway (16L) and adjacent taxiways clear as our snow crews clear the snow and keep things safe. We have seen quite a few takeoffs/landings as flight operations bounce in and out. As the weather warms and improves we will work on more runways. Please check with your airline.

Crews continue to de-ice the airport. Thanks to our teams for keeping things safe!

December 23, 7 am

Currently one runway (16L) is open after de-icing. It will continue to be weather dependent as limited operations and safety is always the top priority. Passengers should keep track of their flights and stay in touch with airlines.

December 23, 5 am

The runways are currently closed indefinitely due to snow and temperatures. Crews are working to de-ice surfaces as quickly and safely as possible. Safety is a priority before the runways reopen. Check with your airlines for more updates on your specific flight.

December 22, 5 pm

We are closely monitoring the forecast. We are ready for the upcoming winter weather. SEA taxiways and runways have been treated with deicer in anticipation of cold weather and freezing rain. Contact your airline for specific flight information.

December 22, 3:45 PM

  • Come quickly! Allow extra time if you park in an airport garage or check bags
  • Download or update The flySEA app – It has live security checkpoint wait times!
  • Use the SEA Spot Saver to reserve your spot in the TSA line
  • Simplify your security experience — don’t pre-wrap your gifts (free wrapping is available at the Central Terminal)
  • Limit checked bags if possible

December 22, 2022, 9:30 am

TSA security checkpoints currently experience long wait times. Please arrive at the airport early The flySEA app For the latest checkpoint wait times. The staff will direct you to the fastest line. If part of the Trusted Traveler program, use your dedicated lane and checkpoint for screening. Lines may extend into the parking garage if needed for breaks, so prepare for chilly temperatures while you wait.

December 21, 2022, 11:30 am

Brrrr — it’s cold out there! Temperatures are forecast to drop further in SEA National Weather Service. Airport surfaces are currently bare and wet. We are constantly monitoring the weather and treating surfaces for ice.

Reminder, check with your airline for flight schedules.

December 20, 2022, 3:30 PM

The ground is currently wet and bare in SEA, but we continue to monitor the forecast. Reminder: Airlines manage their own flight schedules and flight deicing operations (if applicable), so check with them for any changes or cancellations to your specific flight.

December 20, 2022, 7:30 am

No snow on the ground but expected later in the day. De-icing operations are currently underway. As airlines have canceled many flights early today, please contact your airline for any schedule changes or cancellations.

December 19, 2022, 4:00 PM

SEA Airport remains open and operating without any impact on operations. The 8th floor of the parking garage has been treated and is open for use!
