Retro RPG Legends of Amberland Can Now Be Wishlisted on Steam

Silver Lemur Games announced that its retro RPG Legends of Amberland has received a Steam page and can now be wishlisted.

Legends of Amberland is described as a classic, retro RPG, just like the ones we all played in the 90s. According to the developer Chris Koźmik, “it’s aimed at all geezers with low reflexes (100% turn-based) and not much time anymore (no grind, fast-paced combat, quick inventory management, fast travel).” Basically for people who played those games back then, in the “good old times”, but don’t have that much time anymore because of kids and other obligations.

The game is trying to be faithful to the feel & spirit of the 90s era without the obscure annoying elements you probably forgot ever existed. It’s inspired by classics like Dungeon Master, Eye of The Beholder 2, Might & Magic 3-5, Crystals of Arborea and the GoldBox series (Champions of Krynn, Dark Queen of Krynn, etc). The game is trying to be faithful to the feel & spirit of the 90s era without the obscure annoying elements you probably forgot ever existed. It also introduced some modern mechanics, but only to the extent that’s compatible with the spirit of the golden era of RPGs.

According to the press release, the storyline is a fairy tale, mythical heroic fantasy. You are the good guys on a quest to fight the forces of evil (no moral choices). The world is non-linear, with very few locked areas. You basically can go anywhere and do things in different order. In addition, you can choose a different set of quests to finish the game (but those are not mutually exclusive, so you can finish all quests if you like). It’s more like a world driven than a story driven. The priority was to make the world feel alive and let you explore it as you wish than follow a linear list of quests.

Features

  • Classic, 90-degree rotation, FPP, turn-based, tile movement RPG.
  • Party-based (7 party members assembled upon start).
  • Open world with a big overworld to explore.
  • Fast-paced combat. Quick travel. Easy inventory management. No grind.
  • Light, fairy tale like fantasy, epic story about heroes on a noble quest.

Legends of Amberland is planned for a Q1 2019 release. Visit the developer’s website for more information.
