A few months ago at E3 2014, Sony announced their plans for creating a new original series for their Playstation 4 based on the comic book, Powers. At the New York Comic Con this month, they finally released the first trailer for the series.
Powers, is based on a comic book written by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Avon Oeming. The story is set in a world, where superheroes exist. The comic book revolves around Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, who are referred to colloquially as “powers”. Christian Walker is a Superhero turned cop, who has lost his powers somehow.
The comic book series is known for its grittiness and adult content. While it was pondered whether Sony would be toning it down, the trailer doesn’t look as if it will be pulling back any punches. The series will be exclusively streamed on Playstation 4, and will be free for all Playstation Plus subscribers. The series seems to be benefiting from the unique position of it being a console exclusive, as it may get away with a more Rated R tone than what is shown on TV and in Movies.
Eddie Izzard (Hannibal) actually walked folks through a Powers panel at this weekend’s New York Comic Con, giving folks some insight into his super-villain character, Wolfe. Shooting on the series is still going on, but as you can see from the trailers, it seems to be shaping up well.
Powers television series will be debuting on the PSN, in December 2014.
