Renner was moving snow from his driveway on Sunday so family members could leave his Nevada home after spending the holiday together, Renner’s publicist Samantha Mast told CNN on Tuesday. Renner’s family members were with him when the accident happened.
The Reno Gazette Journal reported Monday Renner assisted the stranded motorist at the time of the crash, citing Reno Mayor Hilary Schieve. Mast said he was helping to clear a neighbor’s driveway.
More details about what led to the crash will be shared by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office at a press conference scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, Mast said. Renner remains in hospital in intensive care. “He is recovering from surgery after blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries,” Renner’s spokesperson previously told CNN.
A source close to the actor told CNN that the 51-year-old actor has undergone two surgeries so far to address injuries sustained in the accident.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies responded to a “traumatic injury” involving Renner in the area of Mount Rose Highway in Reno.
Deputies found Renner injured and coordinated his transport to an area hospital, the sheriff’s office said in a news release, adding that the actor was the only person involved in the crash.
At the time of the crash, parts of western Nevada were covered in snow. The Reno area saw 6-12 inches of snow between New Year’s and New Year’s Day below 5,000 feet, and up to 18 inches at higher elevations. National Weather Service in Reno.
Renner has shared several videos and photos of himself in snowy conditions on his verified social media accounts, including an Instagram video posted two weeks ago in which the actor appears to be driving a snowplow.
Renner’s family released a statement Monday evening thanking hospital staff and first responders for the actor’s stay at the hospital.
“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses who cared for him, Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, the Washoe County Sheriff, Reno City Mayor Hilary Schieve, and the Carrano and Murdock families,” his spokesperson said in a statement. “They are very happy and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans.”
Renner starred in the Paramount+ series “Mayor of Kingstown” and is best known for his role as Hawkeye in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
His “Avengers” co-star Mark Ruffalo He asked for prayers for Renner on Monday.
