A DC police lieutenant was arrested Friday and charged with obstruction of justice and making false statements, Jan. He disclosed information to then-Proud Boys leader Enrique Dario, who was charged with treason last month for his role in the 6th attack. American capital.
Shane Lamont, 47, was indicted by a grand jury in DC on one count of obstruction of justice and three counts of making false statements, the Justice Department announced Friday.
Lamont was mentioned repeatedly during the nearly four-month treason trial regarding his ties to Dario.
An indictment unsealed Friday accused him of obstructing the government’s investigation of Dario for burning a Black Lives Matter flag in December 2020, and the Proud Boys leader said law enforcement had a warrant for his arrest.
Lamont was also accused of passing confidential law enforcement information to Dario, which was then passed on to other members of the Proud Boys.
When Lamont was interviewed by law enforcement in June 2021, he repeatedly lied about his interactions with Dario, the indictment alleges.
Lamont’s behavior was “inconsistent with our values and our commitment to the community,” the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement Friday.
Lamont, a 24-year veteran of the department, was placed on administrative leave in February 2022.
The department is also conducting an internal investigation.
